There are a number of reasons you may receive an error message when trying to verify your bank account using Plaid, and the error message itself will often have all the details you need to know what to do next. Some of the most common Plaid-related errors and solutions are shared below.
Remember that you can always skip Plaid verification by choosing the "Having trouble connecting?" link to view alternative verification options.
Your account number does not match
Problem: This indicates that the account number you've typed in the previous step does not exactly match the account number that is being supplied by your bank when you log into your bank's account. Some or all of the account number received from Plaid will be visible in the Plaid connection panel to help you confirm the account number being provided.
Solution: Return to the previous step in the setup process and enter the account number as it appeared in the Plaid connection panel, or as it appears at the bottom of a check from the account.
Your credentials (username or password) are not valid
Problem: This indicates that the bank rejected the username and password.
Solution: To solve this problem, first verify your login and password on your financial institution’s website, then go back into the app and try reconnecting your accounts.
If this does not help, your financial institution may be experiencing technical difficulties, or they may be limiting your ability to connect. If you encounter a consistent issue, please reach out to your financial institution to let them know you’re being affected.
Note that this error comes directly from your bank, and neither Plaid or TravelJoy can troubleshoot a rejection of your credentials by your bank.
Your bank is not in the list
Problem: In looking for your bank, you cannot find it using the name of the bank or the website address.
Solution: Choose "Having trouble connecting?" for alternate verification options, or choose to open an account with a bank that is compatible with Plaid. You may wish to contact the banks in your area to confirm whether they are compatible with Plaid prior to opening a new account.
Other errors
For all other issues, review the error message on the screen and follow any instructions provided. If you are unable to determine what to do next, send the full text of the error message to our support team using the blue Support button and we will take a closer look.
