Conditional logic allows you to show or hide certain questions on a form based on how a client answers previous questions. This helps you keep your forms shorter, more relevant, and tailored to each client. It’s especially helpful when collecting optional details like dietary restrictions, insurance preferences, or accessibility needs.
You can set up conditional logic while building or editing a form template. Before you begin, make sure you’re working on a form under Templates → Forms. If you haven’t created one yet, start here.
Create your trigger and follow-up fields
To use conditional logic, start by adding the question that will control whether the follow-up question appears. This is usually a Yes/No, Multiple Choice, or Checkbox field. For example:
Do you have any dietary restrictions? (Answer choices: Yes / No)
This question will act as the trigger to show follow-up questions only when relevant. Then add the follow up field, in this example:
Please list your dietary restrictions.
Insert and configure the conditional logic rule
Once you’ve created your trigger question and follow-up field, drag the Conditional Logic field into your template from the right side of the form builder. This field doesn’t display to the client, it’s just used to define the rule behind the scenes.
Then, complete the When and Then fields as needed. To make sure everything works as expected, click the Preview tab at the top of the form editor. Try selecting different answers to your trigger question and watch how fields appear or hide based on the client’s input. Make any adjustments as needed. When finished, click Save.
Review your conditional logic rule and test
After you add and configure the conditional logic field, you’ll see a summary of the rule showing the selected When and Then conditions.
Before saving, click the Preview tab at the top of the form editor to make sure everything behaves as expected. Select different answers to your trigger question to confirm that the correct follow-up fields appear, or stay hidden, based on the client’s input.
If everything looks right, return to the editor and click Save to keep your changes.
