Overview
Customizing your invoice item templates (Templates → Invoices) can enhance your workflow when creating invoices. By adding custom fields to these items, you can either publicly display additional information about the item or keep this information as private notes for internal use. In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of creating custom invoice item fields, as well as changing their visibility to clients.

Adding custom fields to invoice items
Some default invoice items, such as the item “Hotel (default)”, already contain additional custom fields. You can further customize, remove, or even add additional fields to these items.
Once you’ve decided on the invoice item you’d like to add additional custom fields to, click on this item to open editing:
Custom field options can be found at the bottom of this screen:
You can remove, edit, or duplicate these fields by hovering over the field and selecting an option from the menu that appears in the top right-hand corner:

Changing visibility to clients
You have the option to control whether these custom fields are visible to your clients on their invoices or remain for your internal use only. Here's how you can do it:
- Locate the invoice item field you'd like to edit
- Hover over the custom field and click on the pencil icon located in the top right corner
- Scroll to the bottom of the editing screen and find the "Visible?" section.
- Select either "No (NOT visible to client on Invoice)" to keep it private or "Yes (Visible to client on invoice)" to display it to clients:
Once your fields have been updated, remember to hit “Save” in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen:
Using your custom invoice items in an invoice
Once you have saved your custom invoice item templates, you can now select these items when building an invoice. Simply choose them from the dropdown menu that appears next to the "+ Add Item" button.
